Stillbirth is the death of a baby before the moment of birth. In most states in the US, babies who die before 20 weeks of gestation are classified as miscarriages and babies who die at 20 weeks gestation or later are classified as stillbirths. In the United States, nearly 24,000 babies are stillborn every year. In the United States, the stillbirth rate is 5.9/1,000 live births. This means one out of every 160 deliveries ends in stillbirth.
Dealing with the death of a baby is an incredibly difficult time and many bereaved parents want the option of spending time with their baby, rather than their baby being moved to the hospital or hospice morgue. The CuddleCot is used to cool the baby with a soft flexible cool pad within any room and allows parents time to bond and form memories as a family.
The CuddleCot is now widely available in the US with over 300 units being placed in hospitals across the US and Canada within the last couple of years. The CuddleCot is also used extensively in the UK with over 95% of British, Scottish and Irish hospitals and hospices utilizing one or more CuddleCots. It is also used in Europe as well as extensively in Australian hospitals. Worldwide, there are over 1500 CuddleCots in use.
Our goal is to place CuddleCots in hospitals located in the Midwest to give grieving parents of stillborn parents time to mourn, love and heal. Each CuddleCot placement cost approximately $3,000..
